Webstore modernization with React + Tailwind UI
The user interface and usability of a leading webstore were modernized by rebuilding the browser interface using React, Next.js, and Tailwind UI. The REST services needed for the new interface were implemented in PHP backend alongside the old ones so that the old and new versions could be run simultaneously in production.
Unified access control with Keycloak and OAuth2.
User authentication, authorization, and session management were implemented in various ways across dozens of systems of a Finnish large corporation. An IAM specialist of Särmä implemented a solution with Keycloak where user authentication is done against the company's internal Active Directory and AD user groups are used to grant application-specific authorizations.
Efficient and versatile document retrieval with Elasticsearch
Diverse and multilingual document search capabilities were implemented by storing the documents in Elasticsearch and building a Node.js microservice that generates Elasticsearch queries and formats the search results as needed. Comprehensive and maintainable integration tests were important as the search logic was improved multiple times along the way, and breaking changes needed to be caught as early as possible.
Operating system and software updates for logistics automation.
The IPC (Industrial PC) unit that serves as the nerve center of logistics equipment contains a Debian Linux operating system with necessary machine vision and AI applications installed. We implemented a mechanism where operating system, software, and security updates are packaged as a Debian installation media on a USB drive, which automatically loads onto the IPC during restart. It works like a charm and is in use in logistics centers of our customer around the world.
Microservice for financial management.
We implemented a Java microservice that calculates taxes, deductions, vacation pay, and generates accounting reports and payroll receipts as part of a larger financial management software suite. The service has REST APIs for other services and integration with the national income register.
